The Honorable M. Lance Phillips, lives in Mexia, Texas, a small town in East Central Texas, between Dallas and Houston. He started his career in oil & gas exploration interning for Phillips Petroleum in 1980 and Triad Energy in 1981. After college he became a field Landman for Conoco in 1982. After two years he left Conoco and put together his first lease block/prospect and sold it to George Mitchell and Mitchell Energy. After which he established his own firm that he continues to this day.
Lance is married to the former Jan Schwethelm, whom he met while attending the University of Texas, where he studied Geology and Petroleum Land Management from 1978-1982. He was member of the Kappa Alpha Order and a former “walk on” baseball player for the SWC Champions & National Runner-Up Longhorns. He has two children, a daughter, Brady Phillips Lehmann, 30, who recently left the staff of Congressman John Carter in Washington, D.C., to return to Texas to marry Corey Lehmann of Kerrville, Texas, and pursue opportunities in real estate with her husband’s successful firm, Ranch Enterprises, and a son, Chase, 27, who operates the family ranch in Kerrville and is exploring winery/vineyard opportunities for the family properties. They are the 7th generation of the founding family of the First Presbyterian Church of Mexia (Est. 1873) where Lance has served as a youth mentor.
